“Balatron studio is a message to every young brand out there that you don’t just put a logo on a t-shirt and call it a day. You team up with the right photographer(s), present them with a clean theme and then ‘boom’, you attract your sun seekers”

But this interview is not about that(perhaps another time). The founder and creative director of Balatron Jean briefly talks with us about fast fashion, teamwork and more!

Words Khaya Mnisi

On what inspired him to start Balatron

The love for garments and craftsmanship is what inspired me to start Balatronstudio.

While in high school, I couldn't find clothes that fit me how I wanted them to - clothes that were different from anything trending at the time. So, I would go into thrift stores, buy random stuff, and redesign them or take my clothes and remake them to fit my vision.

Balatronstudio is all about the confidence our products give you after wearing them, and the comfort the garments provide.

What were some of the challenges you faced while launching and growing Balatron, and how did you overcome them?

While launching Balatronstudio I faced a lot of financial challenges. I also struggled to find resources like quality fabric and printing places, but with more research and sampling I overcame that, and being patient with the process, allowing myself to make mistakes so 1 can learn from them. I never had a mentor or anyone advising me on which steps to take so I had no choice but to teach myself.

How does teamwork contribute to Balatron's success, and what systems do you have in place to ensure collaboration and harmony within your team?

Team work is what makes balatronstudio what it is today, from our photography team to design and marketing team. We carefully the choose direction of any projects we are working on and everyone plays their part perfectly.

How does Balatronstudio address the issue of fast fashion?

Balatronstudio takes a thoughtful approach to combat fast fashion by prioritizing quality over quantity. Each garment is carefully designed using limited, high-quality fabrics, and we deliberately avoid fleeting trends.

What's next for Jean, any other projects besides the brand that you're exploring?

The next chapter for me will still be in the creative space. I have always been an artist, so currently I'm studying sculpting and carpentry which will give me the chance to express my love for woodwork and handwork. However, Balatronstudio will forever come first.

On the future of Balatron Studio

The future is always unfolding, and while we can't predict exactly what's next, we're excited to see where our journey takes us and we're looking forward to sharing what-comes next with our community
